Shirley Gallant
Prince Edward Island landscape and wildlife photographer.
I'm not sure what makes me get up at 3:00 in the morning and drive for hours to photograph my favorite Island places at the break of dawn. Perhaps it's the way the light hits the grasses as they lean away from the wind on a sandy dunes. Or the way the island flora mixes together in a perfect harmony of texture and colour. Only mother nature could mix a garden like that. Sometimes I just enjoy the quiet solitude I have in those early hours. It can be somewhat hypnotic on those very still mornings watching a heron wait for breakfast to swim by or seeing a bald eagle soar in circles looking for movement below.
I guess I photograph the Island because I love this place and I consider it a privilege to share it with the wildlife in those early morning hours.
